A visit to the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe has me reeling. O’Keeffe is recognized as the Mother of American Modernism and I was eager to view her artwork up close. I expected her paintings to be inspiring. I was not disappointed. The surprise was that her words and philosophy of living are equally inspiring.

We’ve all heard about the importance of dreaming and that it happens during REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep. I must admit that reading about sleep studies makes me doze off, but one new report woke me up. It seems that dreaming, the work of REM sleep, creates what differentiates our brains from computers.

I’ve heard testimonials about the joys of working out and I must admit that yes, there are huge benefits to exercising in a gym — but joy? Begrudgingly I train regularly because I know it’s healthy, but I’ve run miles and never ever had a runner’s high; I really don’t like to sweat; I begrudge the hour it takes to work out; and I’d prefer to do almost anything else.
